USDOT Awards $2.97 Million to Develop Mobility Equity Research Center

In an effort to enhance mobility and transportation access for underserved communities, the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has awarded $2.97 million to fund the development of a Mobility Equity Research Center. The new center, based at Florida A&M University, will focus on advancing transportation systems for groups such as people with disabilities, Tribal Nations, and rural communities.

The initiative aligns with the Biden-Harris administration’s goals to ensure equitable access to transportation. Partnering with multiple universities, including Arizona State and the University of Utah, the center will drive research to address systemic inequities.

Expanding Transportation Access

The research center aims to develop solutions to improve infrastructure and accessibility in regions that have traditionally been underserved. By fostering collaboration between experts from various institutions, the center will drive innovation and help communities that face significant mobility challenges.

Partnering Institutions

The Mobility Equity Research Center brings together Florida A&M University, Arizona State University, Southern Methodist University, and the University of Utah to conduct joint research. Their collective efforts will develop equitable transportation systems that benefit marginalized communities.
